Asteroid Mining
Deep Space Industries, Inc.
Deep Space Industries, Inc. plans to launch a fleet of spacecraft in 2015 to extract metals and water from near asteroids, and begin spacecraft building and refueling.
Deep Space will scan potential asteroids with spacecraft it calls FireFlies, to begin launching in 2015.
Then, spacecraft called DragonFlies launch in 2016, bringing to Earth samples to help the company select mining targets and to sell to others.
Extracted materials will be used to build communications satellites in space and later to construct solar power stations. Platinum will also be shipped to Earth.
Deep Space Industries will also extract asteroid water, from which hydrogen and oxygen can be extracted.
